Our Terms: Please read before ordering

All items are offered subject to availability. We attempt to describe books fully, right down to almost insignificant faults. If, however, when you receive a book, you find that it is not as we described, please notify us immediately.

All books are listed in Australian dollars. We accept Visa, Bankcard and Mastercard. For Australian orders, we also accept cheques and money orders. For overseas orders, we accept bank drafts in Australian dollars. We DO NOT accept cheques in foreign currency.

Credit card payments will be processed by Alexander Fax Booksellers and this is the name that will appear on your credit card statement. All payments will be debited in Australian dollars.

Cheques, money orders and bank drafts are to be made out in the name of Alexander Fax Booksellers. We realise that some people still prefer to deal in cash. We are happy to accept cash over the counter at the shop, but we do not recommend that you post cash. If it goes astray (and it could quite easily) there are no comebacks, and we will not accept responsibility.

We request prepayment for all orders. Please contact us first to confirm availability and postage and packaging. We will advise total cost. We are happy to put books on hold until payment arrives, but if we do not receive payment within 2 weeks, and we have not heard from you, we will assume you are no longer interested in the book and will return it to the shelves. We will not chase you up.

Orders will be processed in order of receipt. In peak times some delays may occur, so if you require urgent dispatch of your order, please advise at the time of ordering. All orders will be accompanied by a fully itemised invoice (tax invoice for Australian orders).

We are happy to forward a book to another address, with the paid invoice sent to you. Where this is the case, we will always remove our price markings and we will not include any identifying enclosures. If the book is a gift, let us know and for a small additional cost we will gift-wrap and enclose a gift card in your name.

Postage and packaging costs are not included in the price of the books. They are additional. For orders within Australia we will send at standard parcel post rates with a small additional packaging cost. However, if you require express post, registration or insurance, please advise. For overseas orders, please advise your preferred rate of postage: airmail (7-10 working days), economy air, where available (2 to 4 weeks) and surface (sea) mail, where available (2 to 3 months). Insurance, if required, is extra. Where we do not receive advice regarding a preferred postage rate, we will send the parcel by economy. We take great care with packaging our books. You might take awhile to unwrap them, but they will be safe!

Our shop is open 4 days a week, from Wednesday to Saturday. Outside those times, email is the best way of contacting us as we will check our email everyday. If you prefer to phone, call us on 02 6290 0140 (+61 2 6290 0140) and leave a message. Please speak slowly and clearly, giving full name and suburb/town/country and phone number. You can also send a fax on the same number. Please identify the books you are after. If they are still available, Kristen will reserve them for you and will get back to you as soon as possible. If you have not heard from us within about 3 days, please contact us again as there may have been a technology glitch.

We pay a lot of attention to describing our books as accurately as possible, right down to almost inconsequential flaws. We feel that we have to do this because we are your “eyes” when you can’t actually pick up the book yourself. But, occasionally we might miss something. If you are not happy with the book because we have not described a flaw accurately, or if there is a publisher’s fault or other flaw that we missed, we will accept the book back and we will refund. We will not, however, refund if you change your mind, or if you find you already have a copy on your shelves, or if you do not like the contents!

Many of our books are listed as "Dw protected". We use a product called Singlefold II Dust Jacket Sleeves to protect dustwrappers from shelf wear and to ensure that any existing wear does not get any worse. These jackets are made from acid free 100-micron polypropylene with a paper backing and adhesive strip. If you do not want this jacket, it can be easily slipped off.
